Why I Got Involved in Radiation Oncology: A Personal Journey
A Defining Moment
Like many who find their path into the commercial side of the medical sciences, my journey into radiation oncology began with a conversation. A colleague had recently launched a company manufacturing brachytherapy seeds for low-dose prostate cancer treatment, and I was immediately intrigued—both by the science and the potential impact of the procedure.
As I dove deeper, I was amazed by the range of diagnostic and therapeutic uses for radioactivity. Until then, I had only thought of radiation in the context of general X-rays. I hadn’t considered the broader possibilities or the incredible advancements happening in cancer treatment.
Discovering the world of radiation therapy opened my eyes to its transformative potential. What truly cemented my decision to enter this field was seeing how the right technology could directly change lives. Whether through conversations with clinicians or witnessing patient outcomes, I came to understand that innovation in this space isn’t just about improving efficiency—it’s about saving lives.
My Background & Path to Radiation Oncology
Before entering this field, my career focused on the dental industry. I worked closely with dental professionals to support the surgical placement and restoration of dental implants. I was fascinated by the biology behind implantology and deeply motivated by the satisfaction patients experienced from restoring something as fundamental as their ability to chew, speak, and smile.
As I learned more about radiation oncology, I recognized similar challenges—complex workflows, the need for greater automation, and a deep reliance on precision. I realized my background in medical technology and patient-centered care could be leveraged to make a meaningful impact in this new space.
